Goodyear Polyglas GT RWL E/S L60-15

It doesn't get much better than the iconic Goodyear Polyglas GT with raised white letters. This L60-15 Polyglas bias ply tire offers the classic looks of RWL sidewall, with the low profile 60 series stance and extra wide tread profile. The L60-15 sizing was unique for the early 1970's, as it provided an aggressive stance for pony cars and muscle cars alike. Even though OE fitments are for the L60 tire are non existent, these tires work well for Day 2 builds and street machines looking for a nice, fat rear tire to combine with our other 60 series Goodyears. This is what Goodyear classifies as an E/S tire, meaning that the size of the tire is elevated with white lettering. The E/S design is accurate for cars with build dates of 11/01/1969 and later. The bias belted construction features a combination of polyester cord material and fiberglass belts, a combination that Goodyear called the Polyglas.

Genuine Raised White Letter Tire

This is a raised white letter tire, sometimes called RWL for short. Raised white letter tires became common in the late sixties on muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO and high performance pony cars, like the Ford Mustang. Raised white letter tires feature white rubber that is built into the tire's sidewall when the carcass is being assembled. The letters are formed when the tire is vulcanized in a curing mold, and then buffed clean to reveal bright white letters. Popular raised white letter tires include Firestone Wide Oval and Wide Oval Radials, BFGoodrich Radial T/A, and Goodyear Polyglas tires.

Bias Ply Construction

Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement.
