Why did my whitewalls turn a different color?

Loading...

Whitewall tires are built with white rubber, which is much more fragile than black rubber. This means it is susceptible to damage and discoloration, especially if proper care is not taken during mounting, balancing and installation on the vehicle. Some whitewall tires come with a blue protective coating on the white rubber to protect it during transit and installation. We suggest leaving the blue protective coating until the tires are installed on the car.

Whitewall tires can easily stain, due to black rubber coming in contact with the white rubber. It is also possible for the chemicals from the black rubber to make its way into the white rubber, which results in the white rubber turning a tan or brown color. We use a barrier between the two rubber surfaces to hopefully prevent this from happening, but whitewall discoloration is still possible after long periods of time or improper care. Harsh cleaning chemicals are not suggested for the white rubber as it can dry out and crack the rubber. We offer excellent whitewall cleaning products that are safe for whitewalls!
