Goodyear Custom Wide Tread RWL E/S G70-14

The famous Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Tread G70-14 features raised white letters, and the classic Goodyear tread pattern. This tire has authentic features for 1970.50 through 1974 muscle car and pony car fitments, including Chevy Chevelle, Pontiac GTO, Dodge Charger, Ford Torino and many more muscle cars. This is what Goodyear classifies as an E/S tire, meaning that the size of the tire is elevated with white lettering. The E/S design is accurate for cars with build dates of 11/01/1969 and later. The bias belted construction features a combination of polyester cord material and fiberglass belts, a combination that Goodyear called the Polyglas.

Genuine Raised White Letter Tire

This is a raised white letter tire, sometimes called RWL for short. Raised white letter tires became common in the late sixties on muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO and high performance pony cars, like the Ford Mustang. Raised white letter tires feature white rubber that is built into the tire's sidewall when the carcass is being assembled. The letters are formed when the tire is vulcanized in a curing mold, and then buffed clean to reveal bright white letters. Bias Ply Construction

Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement.
