Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread GT RWL E70-15

The Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread GT Raised White Letter E70-15 bias ply tire has a very specific purpose, as it was an original tire for 1968 and 1969 Camaro Z28. This special edition Camaro featured 15-inch wheels instead of the standard 14's, so it required a special tire to fit. The E70-15 offers authentic fitment for these first generation Z28 cars, with proper white letter sizing and sidewall markings. The classic tread pattern is original to the late 1960's, and the bias ply tire features four ply polyester construction.

Genuine Raised White Letter Tire

This is a raised white letter tire, sometimes called RWL for short. Raised white letter tires became common in the late sixties on muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO and high performance pony cars, like the Ford Mustang. Raised white letter tires feature white rubber that is built into the tire's sidewall when the carcass is being assembled. The letters are formed when the tire is vulcanized in a curing mold, and then buffed clean to reveal bright white letters. Bias Ply Construction

Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement.
