Frequently Asked Questions
Fitment & Compatibility â–¼
The Michelin TB 15 23/62-15 is designed for performance-oriented classic vehicles, particularly European sports cars and vintage race applications running 15-inch wheels. With a 275 mm section width and recommended rim widths between 8.5 and 10.5 inches, it suits wider performance setups rather than narrow factory wheels.
Fitment depends heavily on wheel width and available clearance. At 10.47 inches section width, this tire requires generous fender space. Vehicles with narrow arches or stock suspension may face clearance issues, especially under compression or steering lock.
This tire requires a wheel width between 8.5 and 10.5 inches, which is wider than most factory wheels on classic vehicles. It is best suited for upgraded or performance-oriented wheel setups.
Mounting it on narrower wheels can distort the sidewall and reduce handling precision. Proper wheel pairing ensures optimal contact patch and maintains intended performance characteristics.
Yes, this tire is well suited for lowered and race-prepped vehicles due to its low 45 aspect ratio and wide footprint. It supports improved cornering stability and responsiveness.
However, lowered vehicles increase the risk of rubbing. Proper alignment, correct offset, and suspension setup are critical to ensure adequate clearance during aggressive driving.
Tire Size Equivalents & Conversions â–¼
The Michelin TB 15 23/62-15 corresponds to a modern metric size of 275/45R15. This provides a clear reference for section width, aspect ratio, and rim compatibility.
Understanding this conversion helps when comparing with other tire options. It also simplifies fitment calculations and ensures compatibility with modern wheel setups.
Yes, if replacing a taller tire, the smaller diameter will cause the speedometer to read higher than actual speed. This is a common effect when switching to performance-oriented sizes.
Even a small diameter difference can accumulate over distance. It is important to calculate the percentage change and consider recalibration if accuracy is critical.
Performance & Use Case â–¼
The tread design includes multiple longitudinal grooves that improve water evacuation. This enhances grip in wet conditions compared to slick-style tires.
The Mixte compound is designed for consistent performance in varying weather. However, caution is still required under heavy rain due to the wide footprint.
The wide 275 mm section increases steering effort, especially at low speeds. This is more noticeable on vehicles without power steering.
At speed, the tire provides stable and predictable handling. The increased effort is offset by improved control and feedback.
Yes, it is specifically designed for rally and competition environments. The compound and tread pattern support varied road conditions.
It offers a balance of grip and durability, making it a strong choice for vintage rally enthusiasts.
Construction, Durability & Load Capacity â–¼
The radial design and compound help manage heat effectively during high-speed driving. This supports consistent performance.
Improper inflation can still lead to excessive heat. Monitoring pressure is critical for safety and longevity.
With a load index of 86, this tire is suitable for lighter performance vehicles. It is not intended for heavy vehicles.
Exceeding load capacity can compromise safety. Always match the tire to your vehicle’s requirements.
While durable, it is not designed for harsh off-road conditions. It performs best on paved surfaces.
Sharp debris and potholes can still cause damage. Careful driving helps preserve tire integrity.
Installation & Maintenance â–¼
Verify wheel width compatibility, inspect rims, and confirm clearance. Proper preparation ensures safe installation.
Also check alignment and suspension condition. These factors influence performance and wear.
Rotation intervals depend on usage but should generally occur every 5,000 miles. This promotes even wear.
Track use may require more frequent rotation. Monitoring wear patterns helps determine timing.
Yes, balancing is critical for smooth operation and reduced vibration. It also prevents uneven wear.
Proper balancing improves overall driving experience. It is a standard installation step.
