245/75R17 121S All Terrain TA KO2 RWL Tire
As the creator of the world's first all-terrain, BFGoodrich knows a thing or two about designing year-round all-terrain tires. From pavement, to sand, to mud, to severe snow, our year-round all-terrain tires perform in any condition, any time of the year.
Genuine Raised White Letter Tire
This is a raised white letter tire, sometimes called RWL for short. Raised white letter tires became common in the late sixties on muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO and high performance pony cars, like the Ford Mustang. Raised white letter tires feature white rubber that is built into the tire's sidewall when the carcass is being assembled. The letters are formed when the tire is vulcanized in a curing mold, and then buffed clean to reveal bright white letters. Look for this classic style from our featured brands like Pro-Trac, Firestone Wide Oval and BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
S Speed Rating
S Speed Rated: Up to 112 mph (180 km/h). Often required OE for higher performance trim level classic automobiles.
All Terrain T/A KO2 Tires
Serrated Shoulder Design provides increased mud, snow and rock traction, especially in aired-down driving situations. Interlocking Tread Elements maximize traction and handling on- and off-road by stabilizing the tread center and providing biting edges for improved traction. Three-peak mountain snowflake symbol: Exceeds U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) Severe Snow Traction performance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Fitment & Compatibility â–¼
The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 LT245/75R17/E is designed for 17-inch wheels and works best on vehicles that originally run a similar diameter tire around 31.5 inches tall. It fits properly on wheels between 6.5 and 7.5 inches wide, making it compatible with many factory truck wheels.
However, you need to confirm clearance at full steering lock and suspension compression. The 245 mm section width and tall 75-series sidewall can create rubbing on older trucks or lifted setups with incorrect offset. Always verify fender and control arm clearance before committing.
This tire is optimized for a 7.0-inch wheel and supports a range from 6.5 to 7.5 inches. That aligns well with many OEM truck wheels, making it a straightforward fit for factory setups without requiring aftermarket wheels.
Running outside this range can alter tread shape and wear patterns. A narrower wheel increases sidewall bulge and reduces steering precision, while a wider wheel flattens the tread but exposes sidewalls to damage. Staying within the recommended range ensures proper contact patch and predictable handling.
Tire Size Equivalents & Conversions â–¼
The LT245/75R17 size is roughly equivalent to a 31x10.00R17 in flotation sizing. It offers a similar diameter and width, making it a common crossover size for truck owners.
Compared to metric alternatives, it sits between narrower stock sizes and wider off-road upgrades. This makes it a balanced option for drivers who want improved ground clearance without stepping into oversized tire territory that may require modifications.
The LT245/75R17/E is slightly taller and narrower than a 265/70R17. It offers a more vertical sidewall and less tread width, which can improve clearance in tight wheel wells.
The narrower footprint also reduces steering effort and improves tracking in snow. However, the taller diameter can slightly affect gearing and speedometer readings. This size is often chosen for function over aggressive width.
Yes, the 31.5-inch diameter can change speedometer readings if replacing a smaller tire. A larger tire travels farther per rotation, causing the speedometer to read slightly slower than actual speed.
This difference may be small but noticeable over time. It can also impact odometer accuracy and fuel economy calculations. Some vehicles allow recalibration, while others require aftermarket solutions to correct the discrepancy.
Yes, it can replace a 235/75R17, but it is slightly wider and taller. This results in improved traction and ground clearance while maintaining a manageable footprint.
The increase in width may slightly increase steering effort, especially at low speeds. Clearance should still be checked, particularly on older vehicles with tighter wheel wells or stock suspension components.
Performance & Use Case â–¼
The KO2 offers stable highway performance with predictable handling and good straight-line tracking. The interlocking tread design helps reduce tread squirm, making it more controlled than older all-terrain designs.
However, as a load range E tire, it has a stiffer construction. This can result in a firmer ride, especially when inflated to higher pressures. Proper pressure adjustment based on load is key to maintaining comfort and even wear.
This tire excels off-road thanks to its serrated shoulder design and aggressive tread pattern. It provides strong traction in mud, sand, and rocky terrain, especially when aired down.
The durable construction resists punctures and sidewall damage. However, airing down requires careful monitoring of pressure and reinflation before highway use. This flexibility makes it a strong choice for dual-purpose vehicles.
The tire carries the three-peak mountain snowflake rating, meaning it meets severe snow traction standards. It performs well in packed snow and cold conditions compared to standard all-terrain tires.
While it is capable in winter, it is not a dedicated winter tire. Ice performance depends on driving style and conditions. The tread design helps maintain grip, but caution is still necessary in extreme conditions.
With a load rating of 3,195 lbs at 80 psi, this tire is built for heavy-duty applications. It maintains structural integrity under load and resists sidewall deformation.
However, higher pressures required for heavy loads can stiffen the ride. Adjusting pressure based on actual load improves comfort and ensures even wear. Overinflation when unloaded can reduce traction and increase harshness.
Construction, Durability & Load Capacity â–¼
Load Range E indicates a heavy-duty tire capable of handling high loads and higher inflation pressures. It is commonly used on trucks that carry cargo or tow regularly.
This construction increases durability but also results in a stiffer ride. For daily driving without heavy loads, adjusting pressure downward improves comfort while maintaining structural integrity.
The KO2 is known for its durability, with reinforced sidewalls and a robust tread compound. It resists cuts, chips, and punctures better than standard tires.
Heat buildup is also managed effectively, making it suitable for long highway drives. However, maintaining proper inflation is critical to prevent uneven wear and maximize lifespan.
Yes, the reinforced sidewall and durable tread compound improve puncture resistance. This is especially beneficial for off-road driving where sharp objects are common.
While highly resistant, no tire is completely puncture-proof. Regular inspection after off-road use helps identify damage early and prevent failure during highway driving.
Installation & Maintenance â–¼
Maximum pressure is 80 psi, but actual operating pressure depends on load and vehicle weight. Running maximum pressure when unloaded can cause a harsh ride and uneven wear.
Most drivers find optimal performance at lower pressures for daily use. Adjusting pressure based on conditions improves comfort, traction, and tread life.
Rotation every 5,000 to 7,000 miles is recommended to ensure even wear. All-terrain tires can develop irregular wear patterns if not rotated regularly.
Following a consistent rotation pattern extends tire life and maintains performance. This is particularly important for vehicles used in mixed driving conditions.
