Back in 2013, we introduced the American Classic bias look radial tire. It had a huge impact on the collector car market, and we have enjoyed a great number of sales in both wide whitewall and blackwall construction. The period correct appearance of a bias ply tire with the comfort, safety and treadwear of a modern steel-belted radial made this prodcut line very popular, and we knew it would be a great place to expand as we continue to develop new tires. With that in mind, we developed a narrow whitewall version of the American Classic bias look radial tire. This product is geared toward 1960's classics, as the majority of auto manufacturers downsized to one-inch whitewalls in 1962. It was a somewhat universal transition, with only a few exceptions in the luxury sedan market. While the narrow whitewall took the place of the wide whitewall, the tires still had the tall and narrow profile with a classic piecrust shoulder. Before the introduction of the new narrow whitewall American Classic

The new 145R15 tire is designed for use on the front of hot rods, street rods and rat rods. This tire also fits a number of European compact cars, including the famous Volkswagen Beetle. The tire measures 24.25 inches in diameter, and is designed to fit a 15x3.5 through 15x5 wheel. With an overall width of 5.60 inches, this is the perfect "skinny" front runner. It is our smallest whitewall front runner tire available. The new 145R15 tire features a 2-1/4-inch whitewall,

Now, we're doing it all over again with the American Classic Model A+ Radial, the world's first bias look radial tire to fit the popular Ford Model A, and other applications from the 1920's and 1930's. The classic tread pattern and shoulder design offer the vintage look, while the tall sidewall perfectly fits within the stock fenders of a Model A. The 475/500R19 and 440/450R21 sizing offers direct replacement

The Phoenix Race Tires product line includes more than 20 sizes to fit all types of drag racing applications, from the weekend warrior to the NHRA Super Stock champions. With the increased popularity of "small tire racing" and "no prep drag racing", we're proud to introduce several new bias ply slick options. First is the 10.5/28.0-15 (also known as a 28x10.5 tire). This is the quintessential "small tire" size, and is used on everything from street cars to all out grudge cars. They fit perfectly

Coker Tire Company is widely known as the world's largest supplier of tires and wheels for collector vehicles. Enthusiasts around the world are sourcing authentic tires from a company that started as a small tire and service center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Coker Tire is proud to announce a new tire in its immense line of products, the BF Goodrich Silvertown 225/60R16 whitewall radial tire, a replacement tire for late model luxury cars. Coker Tire's specialty is whitewall tires for a wide variety of vehicles. Whitewall tires have always been a symbol of luxury and style, and auto manufacturers dictated the width of whitewalls through the years. From the 1940's through the 1970's, whitewalls shrank year by year. This ultimately led to a 3/8-inch pinstripe whitewall, and this was the standard whitewall width for many years, even into the 1990's. The new BF Goodrich

The newest size in the Phoenix Race Tires brand is the 4.5/28.0-15 front runner tire. This Phoenix front runner tire is sized for mid-size or full-size needing a tall front tire. A common application for this tall front runner is Nostalgia Super Stock. The new front runner is being developed with the latest tire technology and it is DOT certified. It is designed for drag race use, but it is also a great choice for muscle cars, street rods and gassers, and can see limited highway use. The tread design is a throwback to the Firestone style

August 21, 2017Okay, so it's not really science. Big and little tires are your preference and it's a method of customization that hot rodders have been using for decades. It originated from racing, as most forms of racers (dirt track, Indy and drag racing) would fit racecars with smaller front tires and wheels and larger rear tires and wheels. The smaller fronts reduced rolling resistance and weight, while the larger rear tires provided more traction and a modification to the final drive ratio. The look translated well to street-driven hot rods, and it is a timeless design that is still be utilized to this day. Hot rodders have experimented with various combinations, and continue to do so, while holding a measuring tape and their trusty Coker Tire catalog for reference. Whether you choose the traditional look of bias ply tires, or the upgraded handling of a

June 14, 2017We love getting phone calls and emails from our happy customers. It's one of the most rewarding parts of our job, besides knowing that we're keeping collector vehicles on the road with high quality tires and wheels. Lately, we've gotten quite a few pictures of cars and trucks that are now wearing a set of our tires, and we wanted to pass them along to you. Buying authentic tires for a collector vehicle can be a tough decision. Even within our product ranges, there are typically a few choices for any given make or model, so having some expert guidance goes a long way. That's why our team of Sales Representatives are waiting for your call--we can help with tire fitment, brand selection and additional accessories to make your collector vehicle really stand out. We realize that tires and wheels are expensive, and you don't want to take a chance with that type of investment. Listed below are just a few of our most recent customer

September 30, 2016Hot rods are an exercise in personal preference--there isn't a rule book, or a penalty for "getting it wrong". However, there are iconic hot rods that provide plenty of guidance, and most of them have one thing in common--Firestone tires. The brand is legendary, and it's often remembered as the tire of choice for Indy racing, NASCAR racing, dirt track racing and drag racing. There is little doubt that Firestone tires offer the right amount of vintage style for a traditional hot rod. We offer a great example of the Firestone affect with a 1932 Ford three-window coupe that stopped by our Chattanooga, Tennessee facility this week. The owners had recently bought the car, and their very first modification involved swapping tires and wheels to something more traditional. Although it took a bit of measuring and studying to determine the right size, we whipped up a killer combination with Firestone tires and

August 26, 2016Harley-Davidson motorcycles are iconic and they have an American heritage that spans more than 110 years. The company was founded in 1903 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was a collaboration of engineering and fabrication involving William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson, among others. When the Harley made its official debut in 1903, the world would never imagine the stronghold this brand would have on the motorcycle market. The brand grew and stands the test of time, while other early motorcycle manufacturers went by the wayside. The Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has an incredible display of vintage motorcycles, including "Serial Number One", the very first Harley. Recently, Bill Rodencal, the Vehicle Collections Specialist at Harley-Davidson Archives freshened up the original motorcycle with a set of

August 17, 2016Center caps are often used on collector vehicle wheels, whether it's a restored stocker or a highly customized hot rod. Some folks prefer the looks of a full wheel cover, but the small "dog dish" center cap is quite popular on our Smoothie, Hot Rod Steel, O.E. wheels and more. It's also a growing trend in the muscle car market, as the plain jane looks of a car with regular steel wheels and dog dish caps draws more attention than a car with more stylish wheel designs. Think about the cool appearance of the COPO Camaro, A12-code Road Runners, and other muscle cars that came with big time horsepower, but skipped on the decorative items, like chrome wheels and other accessories. Car enthusiasts are replicating the timeless look, and we have many original and alternative wheel sizes for many hot rod, custom and muscle car applications. In addition to wheels, we offer center caps in many different designs and sizes

January 22, 2016We're not sure about you, but we often day dream about what tire and wheel combinations would look cool on our cars. Having an extra set of tires and wheels on hand isn't always practical, but it sure makes for an easy attitude adjustment for your hot rod or muscle car. We proved it with the "Malibeater", a 1967 Chevelle Malibu project car, which has been featured in various tech articles in Muscle Car Review magazine. Arvid Svensen brought the car down to Tennessee for the tire and wheel swap, and photographed the combinations for an article in the magazine. All three combinations offer cool looks for the car, but there was a pretty clear winner in terms of style and performance after we had driven the car with all three configurations. Just to add another cool element to this tire and wheel swap, we decided that our least favorite combination would be subject to a tire-smoking burnout. [products]

October 02, 2015As you probably know, we make thousands of tires for collector vehicles, with OE and custom fitments for vehicles made from the 1890's all the way to the new Fiat 500. With that said, we are sometimes the only source for certain applications. For instance, Coker Tire is the only source for custom vintage rims for Brass Era cars, or any car that features wooden spoke wheels. Coker Tire's custom vintage rim service and machine shop is based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and longtime machinist, J.D. Scott is in charge of producing steel rims for extremely rare and valuable automobiles, vintage commercial trucks and even motorcycles. August 11, 2015And when we say NEW sizes, we actually mean OLD sizes that hot rodders have been asking about for years! Back in the '60s, '70s and '80s, it was very popular to use Firestone Dirt Track tires on the rear of a highboy hot rod, and 11.00-16 sizing was quite common. Very famous hot rods rolled on these massive 11.00-16 or similar Dirt Trackers, including the Limefire roadster, the Eastwood & Barakat Sedan, Jake's Coupe (think Pete & Jake's) and many more. Firestone Double Diamond Dirt Track tires were also a key ingredient for Tom Prufer's perfectly proportioned hot rods.

June 10, 2015Our tires go on some of the coolest hot rods on the planet and we were overwhelmed when we found out ALL FIVE of the Goodguys Hot Rod of the Year finalists are wearing our tires! The Hot Rod of the Year is a highly sought after award given by Goodguys at the Indy Nationals. This year, the field of entries was a tough one, but the judging staff narrowed it down to five deserving finalists with bad-to-the-bone traditional hot rods. The best part of the Hot Rod of the Year program is that the cars must be driven on a street cruise, and run down the drag strip to prove that it's not just a show car. The five finalists did not disappoint, so keep reading to check 'em out!

May 20, 2015We get around to a lot of car shows here in the Southeast, and just because we're not set up as a vendor doesn't mean we're not interested in the event. The Goodguys Nashville Nationals is a great example, as it's just a couple hours away from our office, and it offers up a couple thousand cars and trucks. The venue for the event is LP Field, which is right across the river from downtown Nashville, Tennessee. It's an excellent show, and we're always glad to sneak away from the office to check it out and snap a few pictures of cars with our tires and wheels! And though the weather may have hindered the overall turnout, the event was still huge and gave us a lot of cool stuff to look at. Oh, you like cool stuff, too? Well, you're in luck, as we've compiled a bunch of our favorite hot rods, muscle cars and classic trucks that feature our tires and wheels.

February 11, 2015Steve Coonan, owner and editor of The Rodder's Journal magazine is a tried and true hot rodder. His magazine is the premier publication for hot rodders, and his photography is top-notch. Every issue (it comes out quarterly) is a keeper, and every issue is packed with excellent hot rods that roll on Coker Tire products. With that said, Steve Coonan's personal car, a black '32 Ford roadster, has our tires on it. Steve is a stickler for small details, as evidenced by his photography skills, but he admits that something as simple as a tire and wheel swap can provide a whole new look for a hot rod. He proved it by swapping tires and wheels multiple times at The Rodder's Journal booth at the Grand National Roadster Show this year. We loved the idea, because we offer such a broad scope of tires and wheels. He called us up and ordered three sets of tires to go along with the tires that were already on the car. Keep reading to see all of the combinations in use on his beautiful highboy roadster!

January 27, 2015If you're a hot rodder, then you have probably heard of the "Deuce of Spades" movie. If you haven't heard of it, do yourself a favor and order it now! We're huge fans of the movie, and we're even bigger fans of the black '32 Ford roadster that stars in it. This thing is a stripped down highboy and it gets around Southern California to many promotional events, film festivals and more. The car had a set of our Firestone Deluxe Champion blackwall tires on it but they were worn out, so we brought her into our City of Industry, California location and installed a new set of Firestone 5.60-15 and 7.50-16 tires. Faith Granger is responsible for the movie production, and she's fully involved in the hot rod community. Check out her roadster with the new rubber, and be sure to check out her movie!

November 06, 2014It's been said that car guys and girls who work in the automotive aftermarket have the best jobs in the world. And it's true! We surround ourselves with awesome people each and every day, but the SEMA Show is like sensory overload. We're shaking hands, talking business, drooling over cool cars, and having a good time doing it. Today, we had a great time covering the event, and hung out with a lot of cool people...like Rutledge Wood. Stay tuned for a full blog feature and video feature on his Plymouth station wagon, which rolls on whitewalls from Coker Tire! For now, check out today's highlights, and be sure to watch our Facebook and Instagram feed for up-to-the-minute posts!

November 05, 2014Leading up to the SEMA Show, we always get the inside scoop on killer project cars. We had the opportunity to be a part of a very cool build that is on display in the Ford booth in Hot Rod Alley. The Ford booth is always a destination booth, and this year, there are a bunch of new-for-2015 Mustangs on hand with many custom treatments. The Watson Racing prepared Mustang has a drag racing theme, making north of 700 horsepower, thanks to a supercharged 5.0-liter engine. Our involvement with the project car was a set of M&H Racemaster DOT-approved drag radials, sized at 185/55R17 and 325/45R17. These tires will stick to the drag strip, and they're legal for the street, so it was the perfect combination for the new Mustang. Also, the huge brakes on these cars require at least a 17-inch wheel, so our M&H product line had 'em covered with radial tires for 17-inch front runner wheels, and sticky drag radials out back. Check it out!

September 24, 2014Last year we met Scott Jones, the man behind Noise Cycles in Santa Ana, California. He uses our tires on most of his custom motorcycle builds, and he seeks inspiration for his own builds thorugh vintage racing bikes and old motorcycles in general. With that in mind, we told Scott that any time he had an excuse to be in Tennessee to stop by and see us. He did just that on his way back from the Brooklyn Invitational, a huge motorcycle show in New York. Noise built a special bike to debut at the Brooklyn show, and it was finished just in time to make the event. The bike has a no frills look, but closer inspection reveals TONS of hand made components, and one very interesting feature that involved a lot of thought and fabrication. Keep reading for more...

Cheater Slicks | Dragster Slicks
Cheater slicks are very popular in the traditional hot rod and nostalgia drag racing world. Cheater slicks got their name from just barely being able to cheat the DOT laws many years ago. Tire manufactures would include just enough tread to make the tires street legal, but still use a compound that would work well on the drag strip. Now, Cheater Slicks have made a huge comeback, as the nostalgia drag racing scene continues to grow. Coker Tire offers Cheater Slicks in the Firestone product line, and they are perfect for the rear of a hot rod. -

November 14, 2013
Classic car enthusiasts have always had to choose between bias ply and radial tires. The restoration guys prefer the authentic construction and appearance of bias ply tires, while many folks would rather sacrifice the vehicles authenticity to have the ride quality of a modern radial. Previously, we have offered both styles of tires (bias and radial) in whitewall form, but now we offer a tire that blends the best of both worlds. It's the new American Classic Bias Look Radial, and it's the first ever radial whitewall tire with an authentic bias ply look.

July 17, 2013Hot rods are cool because they're generally not cookie cutter builds that lack personality. Owners and builders can go as wild as they want, and part of getting the right look is the vehicle's stance. And a big part of the stance involves the tires and wheels. Sizing is key, so if you can dream it up, we can usually put together a tire and wheel package for your hot rod, custom or classic car. Read more to find out how we do it.

June 05, 2013Today, we are running wide open to prepare for the Chattanooga stop of the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour, which blasts through the Scenic City tomorrow, June 6th. This afternoon, a couple guys pull up in a slick little '31 Ford Model A coupe and these guys completely skipped today's Birmingham stop to get some new tires and wheels. Harry Kavelaars came all the way down from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada for the Power Tour, so we welcomed him with a hardy, "Come on in and stay a while" and commenced to swapping his tires and wheels while he waited.

May 16, 2013Sometimes we get caught up in the daily hustle of selling tires, and forget about all of the cool stuff that was created specifically so hot rodders could put a personal touch on their machines. One of the coolest products that have passed through our development department and onto our customers is the Firestone Dirt Track line. They're distinct, they're old school and they're the perfect fit for a traditional hot rod...that's why WE love 'em. Here are some reasons you should love them...

May 08, 2013In case you didn't already know, the crew at Coker Tire Company deals with more than "just tires". We have wheels, hot rod parts, and much more to keep up with, and that includes a bicycle company called Coker Cycle Company. The cycle company is known for its 36-inch tires and wheels, so these specialty bicycles and unicycles have a larger than life personality. Coker Cycles is proud to announce the new and improved edition of our popular Wheelman bicycle, a modern rendition of the famous Penny Farthing-style "high wheel" bicycle.

December 20, 2012A couple weeks ago, our cohorts across the street at Honest Charley alerted us of a very cool project that we might want to document. So, we did just that and the car is now finished, complete with a brand new set of Michelin TB5 tires!. It's a 1980 Fiat 131 Abarth tribute car, and it has lots of cool parts on it. The wide fender flares and paint scheme are in-your-face aggressive, and super-wide Michelin TB5 tires are a perfect fit.

December 19, 2012We often get opportunities to see great automobiles, but anytime a Packard pulls into the parking lot, we take notice. This one in particular caught our attention because it has a set of our tires and wheels on it! George Hubbert is the proud owner and drove it up from Duluth, Georgia to have a couple of new tires installed on the car. While he was here in Chattanooga, we took the opportunity to take pictures of his car and he even let us take it for a spin around the block.

Coker Tire Offers A New 185/55R15 Whitewall Tire Suited for Compact Cars
Chattanooga, TN Throughout automotive history, the whitewall tire has been one of the most popular choices on everything from luxurious sedans to muscle cars. These days, whitewalls are still available for classic cars, but adding this vintage style to a new car leaves enthusiasts with very few options. Coker Tire Company, the worlds leading supplier of collector car tires and wheels, decided to fill this void by producing a modern radial tire with a wide whitewall, designed to fit the new Fiat 500 and other compact cars. -
May 23, 2012We've said it over and over again--the right tires and wheels can take a somewhat questionable car and turn it into a real attention getter! It's a simple fact of sizing, style and stance that makes a car look great, especially in the hot rodding world. We recently had a car come in the shop that didn't quite have the right look. With about 30 minutes of work, we helped transform it into a cool, old school hot rod! April 21, 2012First off, don't call it a Chrysler because it ain't one! Although these cars were manufactured by Chrysler and resembled all of the corporation's weird cars of the early '60s, this car was sold as an Imperial Crown...not a Chrysler. Anyway, these are super cool cars and they're extremely rare, so we were surprised to see Todd Dockery pull up to our shop in one of these! He needed new tires, so we were able to get him back on the road with period correct tires for his classic Chrys...err, Imperial. The interesting thing about the '63 Imperial is that hundreds of changes were made from the previous year's production, and it

June 02, 2011Chances are, if you've been to our headquarters sometime in the past 10 years, then you've probably seen the Shafer 8 racecar, aka The Coker Special. The ole car has been around for a while and we've driven it across the country more than 10 times, including several coast-to-coast Great Race events. The car has a Buick straight 8 engine in it, and it runs pretty darn good! It's spent a lot of time sliding around Corkyville, but it's about to go on yet another long trip. The revitalized Great Race starts next week right here in Chattanooga and ends at the Hemmings Motor News headquarters in Bennington, Vermont. The Shafer 8 will not be in competition but it'll be on the trip! We'll be riding the route in style! May 31, 2011That's right, we're proud to announce the availability of the new BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec 245/55R18 Redline from Coker Tire! These tires were originally designed for use on the special edition Hurst Camaro, which is an awesome car built from a collaboration of the biggest names in the automotive aftermarket. Hurst, Detroit Speed and Engineering and BFGoodrich teamed up to build this car, and equipped it with a set of custom redline tires. The tires were such a hit with the public that BFGoodrich made a few extras, and they are now available right here at Coker. May 28, 2011Around here, there's no better way to celebrate the Indianapolis 500 than to show off some of our tires, built specifically for vintage Indy cars. In fact, we're up here in Indy right now, showing off our Marmon Wasp replica, along with our Firestone Indy tire selection, which are all built from either original Firestone molds or new molds built from the original drawings. We'll post up some pictures from the event later, but for now, check out a finished photo of the Marmon Wasp, and our line of Firestone Indy tires in the spirit of the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500!
